Silk Platycodon – AHHY5002

A platycodon — the balloon flower, named for the inflated bud that opens into a flat five-pointed star. Carrying both stages on the stem is what identifies it: without the closed balloon buds, the open flower is just another star-shaped bloom.

Platycodon belongs to the cottage-garden and wildflower vocabulary that garden-style arrangement work depends on. Its value is that it is not a florist flower — the shape is unfamiliar enough to read as something grown rather than bought, which is the whole point of that styling direction.
