A hanging bird of paradise in real touch material, with nine pointed bracts stepping down a single pendant spike. This is the hanging heliconia, also sold as lobster claw: instead of standing upright like the classic bird of paradise, the bloom drops from a long arching stem, which is what makes it read as tropical from across a room.
The stem runs about 97 cm (38 in) and the hanging spike is about 41 cm (16 in) long, so it has the length to spill over the rim of a tall vase, trail from an arch or ceiling installation, or break the outline of a large tropical centerpiece. Orange and red are the classic heliconia shades for luau, resort and summer event work; pink is softer and sits well beside anthurium, orchids and palm greenery.
